Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation may be performed for a number of reasons:
• To enhance the body contour of a woman who is unhappy with her small breast size
• To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy
• To balance a difference in breast size
• As a reconstructive technique following breast surgery
Breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. An implant is placed through an incision under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. The incision can be made under the breast, around the nipple, or under the arm. A breast implant may be composed of an outer silicone shell filled with saline or silicone gel. The implants come in various shapes, sizes, and surfaces. We will help you to determine which implants meet your individual needs.
Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it is important to have realistic expectations. During a personalized consultation, we can help you determine whether breast augmentation is right for you.
Breast Lift
A breast lift, or mastopexy, restores a more youthful appearance to a woman’s breasts. Over the years, breasts can lose their shape and firmness due to pregnancy, aging, or genetics, causing them to sag. A breast lift will raise and reshape the breasts to reverse the effects of aging and gravity. In some cases, the placement of an implant may also be appropriate to restore breast fullness. There are several techniques available to perform a breast lift. We will help you determine which lift procedure is best for you to help create the best shape with the least amount of scars.
The recovery after mastopexy is relatively quick, with most patients back to work within a week of surgery. The reshaping created with breast lifting is typically long-lasting, a once-in-a-lifetime procedure for many patients.
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is appropriate for a woman experiencing health problems or extreme self-consciousness associated with very large and very heavy breasts. The goal of breast reduction is to reduce the size of the breasts while improving the overall contour and shape of the breasts.
Breast reduction is done under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in the hospital. The procedure removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer. It can also reduce the size of the areola. Breast reduction may be enhanced by liposuction to reduce extra fat deposits under the arm.
Breast reduction is a very popular procedure. The recovery is relatively quick with most patients back to work two weeks after surgery.
Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia is a benign enlargement of the male breast resulting from overgrowth of the breast gland. Some drugs and certain medical problems have been associated with the overdevelopment of the male breast, but there is no known cause in the majority of cases. Breast reduction surgery can help men who are self-conscious about the appearance of their chest.
In male breast reduction, fat and glandular tissue are removed from the breasts either by liposuction or direct excision through an incision around or through the nipple and areola. In extreme cases, excess skin may also be removed in order to produce a flatter, firmer chest.
